The story tonight was Jay Rosehill. He opened up scoring in the first period with a great shot from the right face off circle a little over 7 minutes into the game (The assist was from Leblond). I turned to a friend and said "Wouldn't it be something if Rosey got a hat trick tonight?" Rosehill then played a good hard forecheck with the other members on the 4th line. He played better hockey than I have seen him play in a long time. Of course OLD Terry Koharski (and I say old because the guy is like 1,000,000 years old and needs to retire) made a bad call on a goal for the Pens late in the second period to tie up the game. Can someone tell Terry that in regular play the rule is the puck has to cross the crease before the net comes off for the goal to be good. He may want to know that for next time. (For more goal rules you can review the blog "Rules Rules Rules".)
Six minutes into the third period Norfolk was up 2-1 and Rosehill returned the favor from Leblond and fed the puck to him, where he buried the puck in the back of the net over Thiessen's stick side shoulder just under the cross bar. So now Rosey has a goal and an assist. Rosey's night got better when, at 8:59 into the third he registered his second goal of the night. Rosey with two goals???? You have to be kidding me right. It looked like I had a chance to have my prediction come true. Of course Rosey ended up getting a hat trick of sorts. At 9:25 in the third he dropped the gloves and gave Farnham (who mind you was being a D-bag for the minute before the fight to everyone around him) of the Pens a beating. That, my friends, is a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. My prediction came true... kind of. I'll take it though.
What to look forward to for tomorrow???? The Pens will be back in Norfolk's house. My pre-game prediction. MacIntyre will go with Leblond but not before taking 6 minutes worth of unsportsmanlike penalties after Leblond plays with him a little. Leblond will be able to hold his own against MacIntyre. Let's just hope Mac doesn't lose it like he did last year against Hershey. I still have nightmares of how they had to drag him off the ice after he fought 4 different people and tried to fight the whole Hershey bench all within 3 minutes of each other. Look it up... Can we say Psycho?
I do have to say Jeff Smith (yes the guy who calls every game both ways consistently, meaning no calls at all) and Terry "The Megalodon" Koharski (The Megalodon because he's so F-ing old) did a good job calling this game. They let the boys play and for the most part it stayed clean and the flow was great. Tomorrow I think it will be Jeff Smith alone because Terry has his retirement party to plan (I hope). If not it will be Terry and that is always fun for me (only because he knows how to heckle back). With Jeff Smith the game will be fast with not a lot of penalties called.
With that said... Rabbi out!
